PATCHELL HISTORICAL CENTRE

Patchell Library 1929
The
Patchell Library Historical Centre houses the Old Scholars Historical
collection of memorabilia in the form of photos, badges, prize books,
school books, uniforms (including dolls dressed in replica uniforms),
medals, invitations, dinner menus, tea sets etc. Most of the items have
been donated by their Old Scholar owners or their family.
Since the Historical Centre began other items are added as an event occurs.
The collection is in the care of three old scholars, Daphne Gum, Helen
Cornish (nee Byrne) and Glenys Edwards (nee Gregory).
Besides caring for this collection research is carried out for continuing
thematic and historical displays as well as family histories and class
reunions.
Another special collection held by the Patchell Library Historical Centre
is the Way College collection of photos and memorabilia. Way College was
a boys' school from 1892-1903 on the site of the present Annesley College.
Recent acquisitons donated to the collection have included books, photos,
programs, certificates, invitations and a school beret. The family of
a 1905-6 boarder has donated her autograph book, a photo and her badge
pinned to the red and white checked "flash" or colour which
the early students wore.
Monetary
donations have made possible the purchase of a 1903 MLC prize book given
to Rosa Matters for English and French "The poetical works of Alfred
Lord Tennyson".
